What just changedJev explained: the AI that decides instead of writing.

Updated

Jev is an AI model from TypeSafe AI, released on 15 September 2026. It does not chat and it does not write. You give it a situation and a short list of questions, and it gives back choices, scores and yes or no answers, each with a number saying how sure it is.

That sounds narrow, and it is. It is also the part of business automation that runs all day long: is this email a complaint, is this lead worth a call, who should see this request first.

Why people noticed it

It spread fast. Vercel, which runs a gateway many developers use to reach AI models, reported that nearly 13 percent of its paying teams on that gateway had used Jev within 24 hours of launch.

TypeSafe's own tests put it at up to 194 times faster and 445 times cheaper than large chat models on its sample jobs. The company says itself that those figures sit at the high end of what to expect, and independent testers found smaller gains on simple sorting jobs. Smaller gains are still large ones for a step that runs thousands of times a month.

What it is good at

Every one of these is a decision with a fixed set of answers. A chat model can make them too, but it writes its way to the answer, which takes longer and costs more.

  • Sorting. Is this message a question, a complaint, a sale or spam?
  • Scoring. How likely is this lead to buy? How urgent is this request?
  • Yes or no. Does this invoice match the order? Does this form have everything we need?
  • Routing. Which of five people should see this first?

What it is not for

For these you still want a model that writes. A sensible setup uses both: a fast decider to sort and route, and a writer only where words are needed.

  • Writing a reply to a customer.
  • Holding a conversation on your website or your phone line.
  • Anything where the answer is not on a list you could write down in advance.

The useful part: it tells you how sure it is

Every answer comes with a probability. That matters more than the speed. You can let the system act on its own when it is very sure and pass the unsure cases to a person, which is how you get the pace of automation without trusting it blindly.

What it means for a small business

You do not need to buy Jev or remember its name. What changes is the cost of automation you may already be weighing up. The sorting and routing steps, the ones that run on every email and every form, get faster and cheaper, and some jobs that were not worth automating last year now are.

One caution: it is new. New models change price, change behaviour and sometimes disappear. Anything built on one should be able to switch to another without a rebuild.

Our take

Jev is good news for any business that makes the same small decisions hundreds of times a week. It will not answer your phone or write your emails. It will make the sorting and routing underneath them quicker and cheaper.

If your team spends hours reading and sorting incoming messages, leads or documents, that is the job this kind of model was made for. We build those automations in your own accounts and choose the model step by step, so you can swap one out when something better or cheaper arrives.

Still not sure which applies to you?

Fifteen minutes on a call is usually enough to settle it, and we will tell you if the answer is something we do not sell.

FAQ

Common follow-up questions.

No. It does not hold conversations or write text. It answers structured questions: pick one of these, give a score, yes or no.

That is the maker's best case on its own tests, and the maker says so. Independent tests on simple jobs found smaller savings. Read it as much cheaper for sorting work, not as a fixed multiple.

Only the steps that make a fixed choice, and only after testing it on your own real examples. Keep a person on the answers it is unsure about.

It is a building block for developers and automation tools, not an app you open. Someone has to connect it to your inbox, forms or software, which is the part we do.
